Colin Meets with the Charity Commission

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 9th Jul 2008

Colin Breed, Liberal Democrat MP for South East Cornwall, yesterday met representatives of the Charity Commission to talk about the needs of local charities, and how they can best use the resources at their disposal. Of the 190,000 charities across England and Wales, 418 are based within the boundaries of South East Cornwall, from national and multi-national charities through to smaller ventures running village halls and parks.

Colin Breed said yesterday:

"I was surprised to learn of the number of charities that have been set up within South East Cornwall. It just goes to show how much effort is being put into running these charities by local, dedicated people, and how much we rely on the voluntary sector in Cornwall."
